Do I need prior coaching experience?
No. You need to be a proficient swimmer (2 strokes minimum) and be committed to finishing the programme. The course starts from zero and builds you to a ready-to-teach standard through supervised attachment classes.
What are the age requirements for enrolling in a swimming instructor course in Singapore?

How long will my SSI certification last?
Most swimming certifications and licenses, including SSI and NROC, will be valid for 3 years. After they expire, you can renew them once you meet the requirements.
Can I teach children with this SSI certification?
Yes, you can teach children once you complete our swimming instructor programme. However, you will not be able to teach the SwimSafer 2.0 programme specifically, which requires an NROC membership. SwimSafer is Singapore’s national water-safety programme that is MOE-approved.
Will I be working for Swimwerks?
No. You’ll be an independent coach running your own business. Students pay you directly, you set your own schedule, and you keep 100% of the lesson fees. We’ll just be assisting with the marketing and student matching.
Where do I teach?
You’ll teach at private pools in condominiums across Singapore, matched to your location and availability, so you’re not traveling across the island for every lesson. While public pools have high student traffic and are affordable, you’ll be required to apply for NROC certification to teach there.
How long until I start earning?
Most coaches complete the programme and receive their first placement within 60 days of starting. As soon as you pass and accept a match, you can begin teaching and collecting fees.
How much can I realistically earn?
Coaches typically earn $80–$150 an hour, depending on class size. Rates are $80 for a 1-on-1, up to $150 for a class of four. For part-time weekend work, most earn $1,500–$3,000 a month. For 10-12 hours a week, figures can go up to $5,000–$8,000 a month, with the most experienced coaches with full schedules reaching $8,000–$10,000.
